Light Shaft taken by DH
Very shortly after moving to Ariona I saw a photograph of this wonderful canyon. I inquired about it and learned that is was Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ. I have wanted to go there ever since. So the first week of July, while the girls were off visiting Oma, DH and I took a wonderful trip up to Page and then over to the Grand Canyon. The drive was amazing through the Painted Desert. We really didn't know what to expect in Page. Since our purpose for going was to do a photographer's tour of Antelope Canyon we didn't look into much else. Page is next to Lake Powell, the 2nd largest man-made lake in the country. Lak Powell is surrounded by huge canyon walls and is incredible beautiful. We took a tour of the upper Antelope canyon which is where these wonderful pictures were taken.
Thru a slot a canyon wall
Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon, which is a canyon which is basically a very narrow cave with a crack in the ceiling. That is the best way I know of to describe it. Some of the "rooms" are a bit larger and in some places your shoulders are almost touching the walls. At certain times the light creates these spectacular colors. I had always assumed that the colors I saw in photographs were due to special filters and such, but no this is the way God made it.

Everything I had read about taking photographs inside the canyon was proven wrong when I got there. Supposedly, pictures taken with a point and shoot camera don’t ever come out. You must use a SLR to get any decent picutes. Well, I got out the trusty Nikon 35mm, purchased new film, dusted of f the tripod and set off into the canyon. Meanwhile, DH took the little Kodak point and shoot digital just to take a few shots. Needless to say we know that the point and shoot works as all these photos were taken with that camera.
I need to finish up the last roll of 35mm before I get them developed and we will see which ones come out better. But I honestly can't imagine that they will come out much better than these. Just because sometimes we like to keep track of these things DH took the first photo and I took the others. Althought I must admit he took quite a few really good ones.
